We have 24 Blues running alongside the commercial herd of 75 beef suckler cows & calves; including two senior & one junior stock bull, born 22/23, who are used for both pedigree & commercial work, nine cows, five bulling heifers & seven calves born 23/24.
Our first pedigree calf was born in 2019 - Betterbread Orinoco.
Sire: Ballygrange Alex
Dam: Gregmaur Brandy
Absolute feminine powerhouse and daughter of a cow I admire, Gregmaur Brandy. Hester displays all the traits of what a blue should be. It took a year to secure her purchase and she landed on farm in August 2020, in calf to Jardinier de la Bonne Raie. She calved on 31 December 2020, is back in calf to Rocco de la Hasse and due the first week of December. Fingers crossed this calving goes as well as the last - 16 minutes from start to finish!
Sire: Bavan Empire
Dam: Ashledge Helen
What a girl.. Trencrom Oprah. The shape and style I strive to acquire and breed. Purchased from the Shrewsbury Blue Genes Sale March 2021, she stood reserve female champion, but topped the female sale. A daughter of the noted Bavan Empire. In calf to Highflyer and due mid February.
Sire: Clinton Du Falgi
Dam: Stonebyres Jill
Lovely big strong heifer from another great breeder passionate about natural calving.
In calf to a Blanc Bleu Belge due Autumn 2022.
Sire: Pythagore Du Bois Remont
Dam: Stonebyres Jazz
Cracking heifer from another naturally calving bloodline.
Sire: Pendle Bruce
Dam: Greystone Herpine
Two noted bloodlines in Pendle Bruce and Greystone Herpine, going back to a very nice cow in Greystone Orpine, with a touch of Jardiner de la Bonne Raie for good measure.
**North East British Blue Club Junior Heifer Champion 2021**
Sire: Newroddige Highflyer
Dam: Taylors Merlot
DOB: 18 Dec 2020
Not the most extreme, but correct and with some proper growth potential. All the hallmarks of making a great cow.
And.. in calf to Greystone Popcorn, due 19.11.22 😊 roll on #calfspam season2.
Sire: Ross Erin
Dam: Trencrom Ictoria
Purchased at Newark as a youngster, we bulled Looker with a blonde the first calving; the resulting heifer has been retained, is in calf herself, and will hopefully make a cracking cow. As a result of the successful first calving, the decision was made to put Looker to Highflyer. Orinoco is the result. A natural, assisted calving. 43kg calf, that went on to scale at 80kg at 30 days old. She’s a great mum and is doing a sterling job of rearing Orinoco. The quality of this cross led us to flush her to Highflyer this spring, with 5 embryos taken; two of which held in the recipient cows. She was put back in calf to Highflyer and calved January 2020. Looker was AI'd to Kai Mook this time around, but unfortunately, this didn't hold and she is due to Highflyer again the first week in February.
Sire: Drift Domino
Dam: Lone Tree Ellie
Merlot was purchased privately as a 9 month old calf. A big risk, but she is a big character. Merlot has grown well in her time here and was put in calf to the same pedigree Blonde bull as Looker at first service. A video of her resultant bull calf can be seen on the Commercial and Show Stock page - he weighed 318kg at 200days. We believe Merlot is a product of the same flush as Norton Knightrider, who was Champion at Beeston in 2018. The genetics appear to breed the length seen in her bull calf. Again, a straightforward calving with minimal assistance, so Merlot was put in calf to Highflyer and calved our first pedigree heifer in December 2020. Merlot was AI'd in calf to Rocco de la Hasse and due towards the end of November.
Sire: Jardinier de la Bonne Raie
Dam: Newroddige Hester

Sire: Jalon De Martinpre
Dam: Greystone Liqueur
The dam line goes back to the herd's prolific Belgian import, Adagio Du Stordeur; and also includes the current herd stalward Almeley Ginola.
The sire is a known natural calver with relatively low birth weights and has produced some quality stock for the Pendle herd in the past.
Sire: Newroddige Highflyer
Dam: Trencrom Looker
Orinoco is a lovely quiet bull, great to work with and growing every day. His 200 day weight was 300kg. We keep doing a bit of halter work with him and he’s a big fan of the brush and a good rub. I sincerely hope he will grow to be a bull of the presence and prolificacy of Highflyer! The flush on Looker in 2020 produced 2 bulls of the same quality, with Looker also calving another bull. We're hoping for a heifer this time around, since Ballygrange Alex seems to have bred some cracking cows.

Mars was purchased at the final Beeston sale in 2019. He was only a youngster at the time and had far from achieved his full potential. We have been light on his workload and allowed him to develop into the animal you see now. A more extremely defined bull, he is equally as correct as the others, excellent on his feet and is proving to breed some real showy calves on the heifers he had this last time around. Calves to date have been block coloured and typically black. He shows a real depth of pedigree too, so we hope to utilise his potential further. Mars currently tips the scales at 1050kg. Sold September 2021 as a result of retaining his heifers.
Sire: Rhymil Iron Bru
Dam: Rhymil Bubbles
Lion King was purchased from Beeston at the same time as Lancelot in 2018 and stood reserve champion at the show and sale. A different stamp of bull, but correct nonetheless. Lion King has been used on Highflyer-sired cows to good effect and calved with relative ease. He is a prolific breeder and often finds the role of sweeper if Highflyer is tied up. Sold February 2021 as a result of retaining his heifers.
